Weston Park Improvements

Weston Park is one of Canberra’s most important parks and is highly valued by the Canberra community. The park is a highly significant designed cultural landscape with important heritage values for Canberra and is a significant component of Walter Burley Griffin’s original plan for Canberra. It contains plantings by Thomas Weston, Professor Lyndsay Pryor and Dr Robert Boden. As such, Weston Park is unique as evidence of the implementation of parts of Walter Burley Griffin’s concept for Canberra and for a large civic park in this location. The character of Weston Park is a combination of pastoral and designed landscapes with historic features.

The Weston Park Master Plan, prepared for the ACT Government in 2009, provides direction on future upgrade works in the park over the short to medium term as well as provide a framework within which improvements to park infrastructure can be undertaken.

In response to the Master Plan Indesco was appointed to carry out the design and construction superintendency of upgrade works at Western Park District Park including the upgrade of the main picnic area, extension of the children’s play area, a loop path for cycling / walking and improvements to the existing carpark areas.
